Salesforce Platform Developer 1 Certification
Salesforce Platform Developer 1 Certification is a proctored exam from Salesforce.com. The exam is proctored by Kryterion and can be taken either onsite or online. The certification exam is made up of 60 multiple choice Questions with 105 Minutes to complete it. Passing score is 65%. Registration fees for the exam are 200$ and retake is 100$.
Prerequisites
I believe that the steps you will follow here will eliminate the need for any prerequisites for this certification. Some might argue that you must have experience in Object-Oriented programming languages like Java or C#, but I think that if you follow the steps mentioned here you won’t need prerequisites. But again if you do have prior experience in programming it will make studying for this certification much easier.
Step 1: Apex Academy
Apex Academy is created by David Liu, Salesforce MVP and Technical Architect at Google. Apex Academy consists of 3 courses and this is where me and thousands of Salesforce Developers learned everything about Apex (Salesforce Programming Language) from. I suggest you take the courses in the order I listed them by. These courses are on Pluralsight.
Course 1: Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Coding in Salesforce
Course 2: Fundamental Salesforce Coding Techniques
Step 2: Trailhead
As usual, Trailhead is the best place to start with, not just for learning Platform Developer 1 but for preparing any other Salesforce certification. Salesforce created this platform to help us learn about everything that is “Salesforce” related. Trailhead makes it very easy to learn the system and try different scenarios in your own playground. I suggest you also take a look at the official exam guide provided by Salesforce.
You will have to dive in this Trail and complete all the modules. It will help build your skills as a developer and it’s the very first step in your journey to becoming Platform Developer Certified.
Step 3: Platform Developer Certification Course
This course literally covers every topic related to the exam. It’s a 14 hour course by Walid El Horr and it consists of Demos, Notes and Practice questions! It’s basically the whole package. You can access this course on Udemy.

Step 4: Practice Tests
There are two resources that I recommend for Platform Developer mock tests.
1) Trailhead
There’s an interesting trail that contains some practice questions on every topic related to the exam.
2) FocusOnForce
FocusOnForce is another source for Platform Developer practice tests. You can buy 4 Practice tests for 19$. I use Focus on Force for practicing for any salesforce certification, it’s one of the trusted sources.
Finish those 4 steps and you’re good to go.
